[WORKING PHASES OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF A FUNCTION WALL WITH A SELF- SUFFICIENT WATER FILTER SYSTEM FOR TINY, MOBILE SPACES]
The HOUSE OF TINY SYSTEMS is a tiny house with a function wall in the front. The project is focused on the construction of a independent sustainable water recycling system and the research of sustainable material for the filter (filling and construction).
IT‘S A TOURING EXHIBITION, WORKSHOP AND LABORATORY
TO FIND SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS FOR CLEAN WATER.
[TECHNICAL PHASE | 20 JULY – 31 December 2017]
In this phase I develop the independent water recycling system with refillable filter in the function wall of the tiny house. The system consists of the frame, the water pumps and the special filter. The challenge of this phase is the construction of the filter which can use more often.
Conventional filter that you can buy can only be used once. Because the conventional filter doesn’t have a long life and are thrown away after a short period of use a lot of plastic waste is produced.
With refillable filter we can save money and resources, act more sustainable and be more independent because we can construct our own filter and filtermaterial. We aren’t dependent on the product of a company.
The development and construction of the water recycling system and the filter is divided into several levels. In the exhibition WERKREIHE each individual development stage of the system is displayed in the functional wall of the tiny house to make the creation of a new concept and product understandable. Starting from the underlying principle to the finished system with its components the works shows show the individual stages.
The dates for the works shows can be found in the section EVENTS and WERKREIHE. Whenever I’m present on campus I open the function wall. THE EXHIBITION TAKES PLACE EVERY FRIDAY FROM 5PM TO 7PM ON THE BAUHAUS CAMPUS BERLIN.
[SCIENTIFIC PHASE | 06 JANUARY – 31 DECEMBER 2018]
The phase consists of several experiments with different sustainable filter material. There exists different ways to recycle used water and everyone has its own benefits and disadvantages. With chemistry and expensive filter systems produced by companies you can clean the water but you aren’t independent because you have to buy the material.
I will find a sustainable solution which creates a real independent situation. A solution with which I can clean my water with sustainable, renewable raw material I don’t have to buy from a company. That’s the red line in all experiments.
Every sustainable solution will be tested in experiments, shown in the function wall and describe in documentation. So there is the opportunity to compare the different filter materials – by efficiency, costs, availability, effects and the possibility to make it yourself.
A lot of start ups, projects and universities make research on filter material and develop new solutions. I would like to show also new and clever ideas of cleaning water and the newest developments. For this I get in contact with the experts and work with them for an exhibition of their solutions. [SOCIALLY CRITICAL PHASE | 01 APRIL – 30 DECEMBER 2018]
This period are several topics included. Water and the recycling of the used water isn’t only a technical and scientific solution. Water is a essential resource of every life. Without water no one and nothing can survive.
Under this aspect we must discuss about the ownership and the rights of water – especially drinking water. At a time when companies like Nestle are pumping out the water millions of liter and selling them expensively in the western society we can’t pretend that we don’t see it. We must know what kind of laws determine our access to clean water.
The socially critical phase is a phase of public discussions, art and the formulating of new approaches and demands. I will take a view to the legal basics and work out what it means to each individual life. In philosophical and critical discussion I ask for the right of the laws, formulate own statements and want to create a new thinking. With the construction of critical art projects I will bring the statements in the public.
Who owns the water ?
Why we must pay for water ?
Does Nestle have the right to steal water?
Why can water be sold ?
[PROGRAMME | RESULTS]
Every phase ends with a presentation of the results. During an event at the tiny house Katrin Hoffmann will show her work in an exhibition and invite the experts who work with her during the phase to a dinner.
[ WANDERING EXHIBITION | FROM 11 MARCH 2018]
