[ A TINY FOOD FOREST | The space ]
[ FOOD FOREST | the concept of the “Waldgarten” ]
On a small stripe of the 150qm grow few trees I want to preserve. I would like to include the natural structure in a system for growing fruits and vegetables and create a healthy ecosystem. A food forest is an ecosystem which has varied benefits, including increased biodiversity and reduced erosion. Forest gardening is a low-maintenance sustainable plant-based food production and based on woodland ecosystems, incorporating fruit and nut trees, shrubs, herbs, vines and perennial vegetables. Making use of companion planting, these can be intermixed to grow in a succession of layers, to build a woodland habitat.
[ CIRCULAR RAISED BEDS | Circular Circle ]
I build my raised beds as beds without plastic and with a circular flow. Circular raised beds have in the middle a compost basket in which you put your organic waste. When you water the compost regulary, nutrients seep into the surrounding soil and enrich the soil. You integrate the organic waste of your houshold direct in the urban garden. The compost basket are constructed of old branches from the area so that I use natural material. The raised beds of the forest garden are made of old floor boards so that I upcycle old wood. The plastic tarpaulin I replace with cork to create protection layer between the soil and the wood.
[ THE COMPOSITIONS | the structure and the plants ]
Details will follow.
[ MARCH – MAY | The spring ]
The springtime is the time of awakening. From little seeds grows the first fine plants which are sensitive and fragile. I have to care a lot about these sensitive living beeings and I love to do this.
